I just finished up The Last Five Years at the Rubicon Theatre in Ventura after finishing The Great Gatsby at St. Bonaventure just before the holidays. I am looking forward to a few possibilities that have been presented to me, and will be excited to see which shows I end up working on!
I just wrapped up working on CSU Channel Island's production of Damn Yankees. It was a pleasure to work at my alumni school, & I got a chance to meet some really talented people. I am very excited to be helping with St. Bonaventure's production of Legally Blonde: the Musical which will be opening in May! These kids are super talented, and I love any show that gives me an excuse to use a lot of pink & bling. Photos & updates to come for both shows. I am also excited to announce I will be working at the Rubicon this summer on their productions of Beauty & the Beast and Drowsy Chaperone.
I recently finished costuming the staged version of Lois Lowry's The Giver. It was very interesting to costume, since the characters cannot see colour. Working with only a grey palette would seem limiting, but instead it made me focus on silhouette and detail to demonstrate the differences between characters. Photos soon to come.
Tone Clusters at Theatricum Botanicum went smoothly & had a successful opening. I am working on some personal projects now, including Mary Poppins & Bert costumes for myself & my husband to wear at Disneyland for its Halloween party coming up next month. I am also looking forward to some exciting new opportunities that have presented themselves that I hope I can be a part of.
I am excited to be returning to Theatricum Botanicum for their 2013 season. I will be designing & costuming Tone Clusters by Joyce Carol Oates. I'm also looking forward to Costume College hosted by Costumer's Guild West and the courses I will be teaching.
I am signed up to teach two courses at CoCo 2013: one on Regency style and the other on the basics of Gijinka costumes! I am looking forward to both of them as well as attending the conference this summer! The conference is hosted by the Costumer's Guild West and will be held in August.
I found out awhile ago (but hadn't updated here yet) that I placed 3rd in the Costumer's Guild West contest held during the LA County Fair! The costume I entered was Euphemia from the anime "Code Geass," which can be seen in the cosplay section of the site. I was very excited to win, as it included a prize of a year's membership in the guild!
Cherry Docs had a very successful opening at Theatricum Botanicum, and will be running until October. I have updated the "costuming work" section with photos from the show.
I entered my Euphemia (from "Code Geass") costume into the LA County Fair in hopes of winning a scholarship to Costumer's Guild West's "Costume College" conference next year! My husband and I will most likely be attending Mickey's not-so-scary Halloween event next month, so I will be working on a princess costume for me, and for my husband Dr. Facilier from "The Princess and the Frog"! We are looking forward to it! A couple of weeks ago, I attended Costume College, a conference held by the Costumer's Guild West, which I am a member of. It was my first time attending, and was a lot of fun! I went to several classes and met other costumers. A couple memorable classes I took were: a class on how to do pin-up hair and a course on how to construct a Regency-era corset.
On another note, Cherry Docs, the production I'm working on, is in full swing! I am working on research and getting all the costume pieces together. It opens September 7th. I am officially going to be back at Theatricum Botanicum for their summer season this year. I will be working on A Midsummer Night's Dream again as well as designing for Cherry Docs by David Gow!
Other than that, Anime LA was really great, a fantastic learning experience. I am trying to figure out which convention I would like to show at again, since there are so many in California! |
